Air Fryer Honey-Glazed Roast Chicken
With just a few simple steps, you can master the art of making delicious honey-glazed roast chicken right at home. Using an air fryer makes the process incredibly convenient, saving you time and effort, while delivering a fragrant, flavorful chicken that's not greasy at all.

Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken (approx. 1kg)
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2-3 lemongrass stalks
- 1 garlic bulb
- 2 shallots
- 1 piece ginger
- 1 chili pepper
- Coarse salt
- Seasonings: oyster sauce, MSG, soy sauce, ground pepper, chili powder, sesame oil
- Dipping sauce: seasoning powder, pepper, chili, lime leaves, lime
- Sides: French fries, cucumber, fresh herbs

Instructions
Prepare the Ingredients
Rub the chicken with coarse salt, then rinse thoroughly and let it drain. If the chicken is too large for the air fryer, cut it into smaller pieces and cook in batches.
Peel off the outer layers of the lemongrass, then rinse and finely chop it. Peel and finely chop the shallots, garlic, and ginger. Slice the chili pepper.
Rinse the lime leaves, then slice them into thin strips. Wash the fresh herbs in saltwater and drain well. Peel the cucumber and slice it.
If using French fries, fry them until golden, then drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil before serving.
Marinate the Chicken
Place the chicken in a large bowl. For the amount of chicken specified, marinate with 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, 1 tablespoon of honey, 1/2 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1/2 tablespoon of MSG, and 1/2 tablespoon of ground pepper. Add the chopped shallots, garlic, lemongrass, ginger, and chili, then rub this mixture all over the chicken. Let the chicken marinate for 30-45 minutes.

Roast the Chicken in the Air Fryer
Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper, oil-absorbing paper, or aluminum foil. Then, brush a layer of sesame oil over the chicken and place it in the air fryer. Set the temperature to 150°C (300°F) and cook for 25 minutes. After 5-6 minutes, flip the chicken over so that the skin side is facing up, and continue roasting. This will prevent the skin from burning too much.

In addition to adjusting the temperature, a tip for preventing the chicken from getting charred is to remove any ingredients used for marinating, such as lemongrass, garlic, and shallots, before roasting. These ingredients tend to burn easily, which can blacken the chicken skin.
After the initial 25 minutes of roasting, remove the basket and brush another layer of sesame oil on the chicken, skin side up. Increase the temperature to 180°C (350°F) and roast for an additional 5 minutes to crisp up the skin. Finally, brush a layer of honey over the chicken and roast for another 2 minutes. At this point, the chicken should have a beautiful, glossy golden-brown color and a wonderfully fragrant aroma.

The honey-glazed roast chicken is delicious when served with a dipping sauce made of seasoning powder, pepper, lime juice, and chili. Pair it with cucumber, fresh herbs, and French fries for a satisfying meal. Since the chicken is well-marinated and roasted at the right time and temperature, the skin turns crispy and glossy, while the meat remains tender and moist.

When making honey-glazed roast chicken, avoid using too much honey, as it can cause the chicken to burn easily at high temperatures. It's best to monitor the chicken closely during the final stage when brushing with honey, to achieve the perfect level of caramelization.
Since each air fryer model has different temperature settings and cooking mechanisms, it's important to adjust accordingly.
